30 Causes, Week 27: Abby’s House

Week 27 of our ’30 Causes’ campaign has been awarded to Abby’s House! Based in Worcester, MA, Abby’s House was founded in 1976 as one of the first overnight emergency shelters for women in the nation. Without any formal organizational strategy at its inception, volunteers at the time listened to the needs of whom it was serving to build Abby’s House into what it is today. The group continues, in addition, to advocate for ending homelessness by providing affordable housing for those in need by converting two abandoned houses in Downtown Worcester into what is now 78 individual housing units across three buildings.
