Sikorsky Helicopter at Verticon

Celebrating Heritage and Innovation

Sikorsky Helicopter, a Lockheed Martin company, has a rich history dating back 103 years to its founding on a Long Island chicken farm. Unlike military-focused exhibitions, Verticon is an occasion that highlights advancements in helicopter technology and provides a platform to honor Sikorsky’s corporate legacy, achievements, and the practical solutions offered by the company. Access’s extensive background in the pharmaceutical industry, another highly regulated sector, enables the team to engage with attendees and Sikorsky staff on a highly detailed level, a quality that continues to be valued by participants.

Verticon serves as a marketplace for individuals and organizations interested in acquiring helicopters. Attendees utilize the event to assess their requirements and explore suitable options to fulfill those needs.

Sikorsky’s S-92

The highlight of Sikorsky’s exhibit was the display of the first S-92 helicopter to enter commercial service in September 2004. Leon Silva, Vice President of Sikorsky Commercial Helicopters, remarked, “Congratulations on finding a critical secondary role for older S-92 aircraft. As aerial firefighters, aircraft 920006 and others like it can protect lives and property from wildfires for the next 25 years. Sikorsky stands firmly behind the global S-92 fleet with sustainment and diagnostic knowledge gained from 2.6 million fleet flight hours and climbing.”

Sikorsky case study helicopter

The S-92 was initially deployed for offshore energy missions in the Gulf of Mexico. Over the years, it has operated with three different companies across various regions and jurisdictions, executing a range of missions and transporting people out of hazardous areas and to remote locations. The helicopter can deliver firefighters directly into danger zones via its rear door, and it can hover above water to fill its tank for firefighting purposes. Additionally, it plays a vital role in transporting workers to offshore oil rigs, who typically follow a schedule such as 10 days on and 10 days off. In situations where rough seas prevent boat travel, the S-92 provides a safe and efficient alternative. After transitioning into firefighting roles two years ago, the aircraft completed a successful firefighting season in Canada with operator VIH last year, logging over 550 hours of flight time.
