Kala is a biopharmaceutical company whose initial proprietary technology focuses on eye diseases.

Kala Pharmaceuticals was launching its first product, INVELTYS, at a key medical meeting, American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS).

INVELTYS is a prescription corticosteroid eye drop, approved by the FDA for post-operative inflammation and pain following ocular surgery. On a crowded floor, the young company needed to make a ‘splash.’ Their budget dictated a 100% rental exhibit for their
debut at ASCRS.

The most striking feature of this exhibit was a rental water wall to tie into the concept of eye drops. (The actual name for this is a ‘water curtain.’) The Kala corporate brand and logo, as well as the INVELTYS product brand and logo, played on the water feature. The wall created a rain-like sound, and colored lighting emphasized the outline of the brand names and logos in the water droplets. The actual viewable waterfall area was: 92” H x 101.5” with a shroud around the support truss, water pump, and water reservoir. The overall dimensions of that shroud were 125” W x 137” H x 60.5” D.

A fabric canopy showed the product and brand name on the outside, including the Kala logo, which is a stylized image of a kayak crossing the iris. Inside the canopy, there were images of water and an iris. This canopy hung over a rental tower, giving the company high identity across the floor. The exhibit included a lounge area with a graphic describing Kala’s proprietary mucus-penetrating particle (MPP) technology, a delivery system that Kala will be using on other drugs in their pipeline. There is a well-defined medical affairs area where a graphic shows the Kalalau Trail on the island of Kauai, Hawaii, the inspiration for the company name. The Kala Trail is a hiking trail not only notable for its strenuous path and terrain that is difficult to traverse but also known for its unsurpassed beauty.
